The Renaissance Beckons

With things just beginning to open up, I am looking forward to gigging again. And you should too. One of the first things to consider is that since for many of us most of our gigs were over a year ago. That means it’s time to start doing the leg work that got you the work before the COVID lockdowns began.

Many of the establishments that we’ve played before the lockdowns may have permanently closed or restructured. This means it’s time to get on the phone to reintroduce yourselves to whatever management structure is now in place. You can’t just expect that new or even surviving management would remember to call you after a year of catastrophic business lockdowns. You have to go and get your gigs again.

Also, for many of us, we may have to begin the process of scraping off the collective rust that we most likely have accumulated during the long COVID gig pause. Time to review your repertoire. Perhaps you many need to add a few new tunes and discard some of the well worn ones just to keep or make playing fresh again.

Keeping all that in mind, Spring is here and Summer is just around the corner. This means more outdoor playing opportunities. So, polish up your tip jar. Stock up on sunscreen and bug repellent. It’s time to get playing again. Now go and make some music.
